Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 26, 2026

Fish Licker (“Fish Licker,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates fishlicker.com and its related forecast and lure-color tools (the “Service”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, how it is used and shared, and the choices you have. It applies to visitors and users of the Service (“you”).

Fish Licker is currently a free beta product. We do not require an account or collect payment information to use the forecast tools.

1. Who We Are & How to Contact Us

Fish Licker operates fishlicker.com. If you have questions about this policy or want to exercise any of the rights described below, contact us at [email protected] or through our contact form. We aim to respond to privacy requests within 45 days, as required by applicable state law.

2. Categories of Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of information:

  • Location data. When you request a forecast, you provide a ZIP code, city, lake selection, or your device's precise GPS coordinates (if you choose “Use My Location” and grant browser location permission). We use this to look up weather, solunar, and lake conditions for that location.
  • Forecast and fishing inputs. Optional inputs you provide, such as target species, water clarity, water temperature, visibility, and forecast date range.
  • Contact and beta signup information. If you use our contact form or join our beta update list, we collect your name and email address, and any message you send us.
  • Device and usage data. Standard technical data collected automatically when you visit the site, such as IP address, browser type, device type, pages viewed, referring URLs, and approximate location derived from your IP address, via cookies and similar technologies (see Section 5).

We do not currently operate user accounts, and we do not collect passwords, government ID numbers, Social Security numbers, financial account numbers, or payment card information. We do not knowingly collect health, biometric, or precise-geolocation-for-advertising data beyond what is described above.

3. Location Data in Detail

Because precise location is treated carefully under state privacy laws, here is exactly how we handle it:

  • Why we collect it. Solely to generate a weather, solunar, and fishing forecast for the place you ask about.
  • How it is used. Your location (ZIP code, city name, or GPS coordinates) is sent to our backend, which uses it to query weather and astronomical data providers, and includes it in the request we send to our AI forecast provider (see Section 4) to generate tactical fishing guidance.
  • Storage and retention. Forecast requests are processed in memory and cached for up to 15 minutes to speed up repeat requests for the same location and settings, then discarded. We do not maintain a database of your forecast or location history tied to you.
  • Sharing. Location is shared only with the weather, astronomical, and AI service providers listed in Section 4, solely to generate your forecast. We do not sell your location data, and we do not use it for targeted advertising.
  • Your control. Using your precise location is optional — you can always enter a ZIP code or select a preset lake instead. If you use “Use My Location,” your browser will ask for permission first. You can deny that permission, and you can revoke previously granted location access at any time in your browser or device settings. Denying or revoking location access does not prevent you from using the Service by ZIP code or lake selection.

4. How We Use Information, and Who We Share It With

We use the information above to:

  • Generate weather, solunar, and AI-powered fishing forecasts and lure recommendations;
  • Operate, maintain, and improve the Service;
  • Respond to contact requests and send beta product updates you signed up for;
  • Understand aggregate site usage and measure the effectiveness of our own advertising;
  • Detect, prevent, and address abuse, fraud, or technical issues.

We share information with the following categories of service providers, only as needed to run the Service:

  • Weather & astronomical data providers (Open-Meteo and the U.S. Naval Observatory) — receive your location and requested dates to return weather and sun/moon data. No account or key is required for these lookups.
  • Visual Crossing — supplies moon-phase data for your location.
  • AI forecast providers (Google Gemini, with OpenAI as a fallback) — receive your location and fishing inputs as part of the prompt used to generate the narrative forecast and lure guidance.
  • Brevo (our email service provider) — processes contact form submissions and beta signup list emails.
  • Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, and Google Ads — see Section 5.
  • Hosting infrastructure providers — host the website and backend services.

We do not sell your personal information, and we have not sold personal information in the preceding 12 months. As described in Section 6, some state privacy laws define “sharing” broadly enough to include advertising cookies like Google Ads conversion tracking, so we address that separately and give you a way to opt out.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the rights, property, or safety of Fish Licker or others, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets (in which case this policy would continue to apply to your information).

5. Cookies, Analytics & Advertising

We use Google Analytics (GA4), Google Tag Manager, and Google Ads on fishlicker.com:

  • Google Analytics helps us understand how visitors use the site (pages viewed, time on site, general device/browser information, and approximate location derived from IP address). Google acts as our service provider for this data.
  • Google Tag Manager is a tag-management container we use to load the analytics and advertising scripts described here.
  • Google Ads conversion tracking helps us measure whether our ads led to someone using the Service. This can involve advertising identifiers and cookies that some state laws treat as “sharing” personal information for cross-context or targeted advertising purposes, even though we do not sell data for money.

These tools use cookies and similar technologies (such as local storage) placed by us or by Google. You can control cookies through your browser settings, and you can opt out of Google Analytics specifically using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. See Section 6 for a site-wide opt-out that disables all of these scripts.

If you are visiting from the European Union or United Kingdom, we do not currently run a consent banner gating non-essential analytics cookies; if you require that experience, please avoid granting cookie consent prompts from your browser or use the opt-out described in Section 6, and contact us at [email protected] with any concerns.

6. Your Privacy Choices

Fish Licker does not sell personal information. Because Google Ads and Google Analytics may be considered “sharing” personal information for targeted-advertising purposes under some state privacy laws (for example California's CCPA/CPRA, Colorado's CPA, Connecticut's CTDPA, and Minnesota's MCDPA), we give you a direct way to opt out below, and we honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signal automatically as an opt-out request.

Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information

Checking your current preference...

Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to: request access to the personal information we hold about you, request correction or deletion of it, opt out of targeted advertising or profiling, and appeal a denied request. To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected]. We will verify your request using the email address or information you provide and will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.

7. Minnesota Residents (MCDPA)

If you are a Minnesota resident, the Minnesota Consumer Data Privacy Act (MCDPA) may give you the rights described in Section 6, including the right to opt out of targeted advertising, the sale of personal data, and profiling in furtherance of decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects. We do not sell personal data and do not use your information for profiling of that kind. We do not process sensitive data (such as precise geolocation used for a purpose other than generating your forecast, racial or ethnic origin, religious beliefs, health information, or citizenship status) without your consent, and we do not knowingly process personal data of Minnesota residents we know to be under 13 without verifiable parental consent, or between 13 and 16 for targeted advertising or the sale of data without consent.

8. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us at [email protected] and we will delete it.

9. Data Retention & Security

We keep contact form messages and beta signup email addresses for as long as needed to respond to you, operate the beta update list, and comply with legal obligations, or until you ask us to delete them. Forecast requests (location and fishing inputs) are not stored in a database; they are processed transiently and cached in memory for up to 15 minutes before being discarded. Analytics data is retained by Google according to our Google Analytics configuration and Google's own retention policies.

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards to protect information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the “Last updated” date above when we do. Material changes will be reflected here; continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised policy.
